Topic for This Week: 360° Blessings Through Righteousness
IS IT ACCORDING TO THE FLESH OR ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT?
“Born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”
Romans 1:3–4
There are two dimensions presented in Romans 1:3–4: “according to the flesh” and “according to the Spirit of holiness.”
Jesus was born of the seed of David according to the flesh. This speaks of His earthly identity, His human lineage and His entrance into the natural order. According to the flesh describes this as God’s system for living on earth through flesh and blood—a process.
But something greater happened according to the Spirit of holiness.
The resurrection declared Jesus to be the Son of God with power. The Spirit of holiness is God’s operating system of vindication—not a process that takes years, but God’s instantaneous intervention.
This gives us an important spiritual perspective:
What is established according to the flesh may involve process, but when God vindicates according to the Spirit is established by His power instantaneously.
Your circumstances may still be developing. Your manifestation may seem to involve a process. But your righteous identity in Christ does not depend upon processes. Therefore, your vindication is instantaneous.
When you received Jesus, you received a new identity. You are not trying to become righteous through human performance. You stand in the righteousness God has given you in Christ.
Therefore, don’t allow what is happening according to the flesh to redefine what God has established according to the Spirit.
Your circumstances may say, “You are still becoming.”
But Gospel says, “In Christ, you are already righteous!.”
Prayer
Daddy God, thank You for teaching me to distinguish between what is according to the flesh and what is according to the Spirit. Help me not to judge my new identity by circumstances, processes or appearances. I receive the reality of what You have established in Christ. Let the Spirit of holiness continually reveal and vindicate the truth of who I am in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
My Proclamation
I am the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. What God has established in Christ is greater than what I see according to the flesh. I walk today according to the Spirit of holiness!
Punchline:
Don’t allow the process according to the flesh to question what God has established according to the Spirit!
Praise the Risen Jesus
